May 2010: Zach receives a research grant from the Elsa U Pardee Foundation to support research on inflammatory breast cancer.

September 2010: Dr. Ana Jakimenko joins the laboratory as a Walther Cancer Research postdoctoral fellow. Welcome Ana!

December 2010: Raju Rayavarapu, a Ph.D. student in Biological Sciences, joins the lab. Welcome Raju!

June 2012: Ana and Raju win poster awards at Cancer Research Day at IU Simon Cancer Center.

June 2012: Zach and Dr. Leta Nutt edit an issue of Seminars in Cell and Developmental Biology on Cancer Cell Metabolism. A review article written by Cassie and Raju is published as part of this issue.

August 2012: Collaborative papers with Dr. Pier Paolo Pandolfi and Dr. Arkaitz Carracedo are published in Nature Medicine and The Journal of Clinical Investigation. See press release here.

March 2013: Kelsey receives a Women in Cancer Research Scholar Award from the AACR. See news release here.

May 2013: Brooke is selected as a recipient of the Dean's Research Award at the Dean's Award Luncheon.

June 2013: Calli's paper on antioxidant enzymes is published in Cancer Research. See university press release here. The paper was also cited in Faculty of 1000.

November 2013: Josh Mason, a Ph.D. student in Biological Sciences, joins the lab. Welcome Josh!

January 2014: Zach is interviewed about antioxidant use in lung cancer patients by The Washington Post.

May 2014: Nick is selected as the recipient of the Braco Honors Research Award at the Dean's Award Luncheon. In addition, Nick was recognized as a Meritorius Honor Awardee at the Undergraduate Student Caucus and Poster Competition at the AACR Annual Meeting in San Diego.

May 2014: Calli is awarded her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. She is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Saint Mary's College. Congrats Dr. Versagli!

May 2014: Kelsey, Cassie, and Raju win poster awards at Cancer Research Day at IU Simon Cancer Center.

June 2014: Kelsey's paper on CAF mediated anoikis protection is published in Molecular Cancer Research. See university news release here. The paper was also featured by the V Foundation for Cancer Research and was highlighted in MCR.

June 2014: Kelsey is awarded a Berry Family Foundation Graduate Fellowship by Notre Dame's Advanced Diagnostics & Therapeutics Initiative.

June 2014: Zach is awarded a Career Catalyst Research Grant from Susan G. Komen. See press release here.

July 2014: Zach is awarded a Research Scholar Grant from the American Cancer Society. See university press release here. The lab was featured in television interviews on WNDU and WSBT regarding this new funding.

August 2014: Cassie, Kelsey, and Zach's review article on cancer cell survival during ECM-detachment is published in Nature Reviews Cancer.

November 2014: Mark Hawk, a Ph.D. student in Biological Sciences, joins the lab. Welcome Mark!

December 2014: Cassie's paper on inflammatory breast cancer is accepted for publication in Cell Death and Differentiation. See university news release here.

January 2015: Kelsey is one of only 44 students nationwide (out of 1815 who were invited to apply) selected to participate in the National Graduate Student Symposium at St. Jude Children's Hospital. See news release here.

March 2015: Kelsey's immunotoxin paper, a collaborative study with Dr. Shaun Lee's lab, is published in FEBS Open Bio

April 2015: Mark is awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation. See news release here.

April 2015:  Raju's paper is published as the cover article in the April 3rd, 2015 issue of the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Cover art was designed by fellow Notre Dame graduate student, Kimbra Turner. See university news release here.

 

May 2015:  Sienna is selected as the recipient of the Dean's Research Award  and the Outstanding Biological Scientist Award at the Dean's Award Luncheon.

 

May 2015:  Cassie is awarded her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. She has accepted a job as a Life Science Specialist at VWR. She will be based in Durham, NC. Congrats Dr. Buchheit!

 

May 2015:  Zach is promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure. He is now the Coleman Foundation Associate Professor of Cancer Biology.

 

May 2015:  Cassie is selected as one of two inaugural recipients of the CRND award for excellence in rare and neglected diseases.

 

July 2015:  Zach is awarded a research grant from Phi Beta Psi.

 

August 2015:  Melissa is selected as a Shaps Scholar while participating in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She was mentored by Marc Ladanyi.

 

September 2015:  Kim Hagel, a 2015 Notre Dame graduate, joins the lab as a research technician. Welcome Kim!

 

October 2015:  Meaghan Boyd, a Ph.D. student in Biological Sciences, joins the lab. Welcome Meaghan!

 

October 2015:  Kelsey successfully defends her doctoral dissertation. She has accepted a position as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Xiao-Jing Wang's laboratory at the Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado-Denver. Congrats Dr. Weigel!

 

November 2015: Raju successfully defends his doctoral dissertation. He has accepted a position as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Malia Potts' laboratory at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Congrats Dr. Rayavarapu!

 

January 2016: Josh's paper is accepted for publication in Cell Death & Differentiation.

 

April 2016: Matyas, an Ph.D. student in the Integrated Biomedical Sciences Programs joins the lab. Welcome, Matyas!

 

May 2016: Luqun is selected as the recipient of the Robert Braco, M.D., Honors Research Award.

August 2016: Jordan Cockfield, a Ph.D. student in Biological Sciences joins the lab. Welcome, Jordan!

August 2017: Josh successfully defends his dissertation. Congrats, Dr. Mason! Josh has accepted a teaching position at a liberal arts college, Palm Beach Atlantic University.

September 2017: Lisa Hom, a Ph.D. student in the department of Biological Sciences joins the lab. Welcome, Lisa!

April 2019: Jianping He joins the lab as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Welcome, Jianping!

May 2019: ND Seniors Jamie Campbell and Meridith Balbach graduate and earn their Bachelors of Science. Congrats, Ladies! Meridith will attend Vanderbilt to pursue medical school and Jamie is taking a gap year doing volunteer work with women and children in Texas before as applying for medical school.
